Carloonan Mill
Carloonan Mill
Carloonan Mill is an L-shaped former corn mill situated on the east bank of the River Aray. The present former mill was designed by William Douglas circa 1748 and built on a mill site dating back to 1577. The waterwheel was 4.40 metres in diameter, the impression of which can be seen on the west wall. The aperture to the left of where the shaft would have penetrated the building was used to allow maintenance of the wheel. The mill was used until the last quarter of the nineteenth century.
