Monument to a French knight who was appointed Warden of the Eastern Marches by John Stewart, Duke of Albany, the Governor of Scotland from 1515 to 1524. As the result of an altercation De La Bastie was killed, his head was cut off and displayed at the Mercat Cross, Duns.
