Old Royal High School, Calton Hill
Old Royal High School, Calton Hill
Designed by Thomas Hamilton and built 1825-29, the Royal High School was converted in 1977 in anticipation of housing a devolved Scottish assembly. As this did not materialise until after the 1997 referendum, the plan was superseded by the decision to build a new Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood. The Royal High building is now used by various Council departments.
