This is either the River Flit itself, or one of its major tributaries. The river of course gives its name to nearby Flitwick. This little watercourse runs through a nature reserve here, owned (or at least cared for) by the local wildlife trust. The photo was taken from the bridge seen in TL0434 : Bridge over the Flit
