King George V visits Staffa
King George V visits Staffa
The TSS King George V was built in 1926 for Turbine Steamers Ltd., and was the first passenger steamer with high pressure turbines. She was used mostly for Clyde and Oban cruises, including the circuit of Mull via Staffa and Iona. Passengers were transferred to Staffa by tender (just visible alongside the ship), weather permitting.
She was withdrawn by Caledonian Macbrayne in 1974, and was eventually scrapped after a fire whilst being refurbished as a restaurant.
