Thames and Severn Canal and Sapperton tunnel, near Tarlton
There was no tow-path through the tunnel. Before the days of the internal combustion engine, canal boats had to be propelled through the tunnel by manpower alone. Given that the tunnel is about 3.5 kms long that must have been an unpleasant task.
