Thames and Severn Canal and a passing place, near Tarlton
Thames and Severn Canal and a passing place, near Tarlton
The canal is narrow along this stretch and looks to be only wide enough for one boat at a time. Traffic through the tunnel LinkExternal link must have been strictly controlled as the consequences of boats travelling in opposite directions meeting in the middle would have been horrendous. The passing place would have allowed for a boat about to enter the tunnel to wait until one coming in the other direction had cleared the tunnel. This is pure speculation on my part so if anyone feels this needs correcting please contact me.
