The stone pillars are all that is left of the bridge which crossed the Clyde here. I remember the bridge but never saw a train going over it though I did see a few elsewhere on the line. A meat train supposedly went from Biggar to Smithfield each day. One of my uncles was a porter at Biggar station. Coulter station was just over the right bank of the river although Coulter itself is a good mile and a half away.
