NS6893 : Farm track Gargunnock Hills

taken 8 years ago, near to Gargunnock, Stirling, Great Britain

Farm track Gargunnock Hills
Farm track Gargunnock Hills
To the right on the hillside can be seen the escarpment which here runs eastward in an unbroken line for a further 3 miles at around the 350 metre contour with another escarpment higher up the hill. These were formed 350 million years ago from basaltic lava flows and later scoured by ice. The scarp is an ideal nesting area for birds of prey and on the day this photo was taken a pair of golden eagles were observed wheeling in the sky. Unfortunately too far to photograph but providing a treat for the binoculars!
