SP2054 : Tramway Bridge

near to Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, Great Britain

Tramway Bridge
Tramway Bridge
Tramway Bridge crosses the River Avon about 100 yards (90m) to the southeast of SP2054 : Clopton Bridge from Cox's Yard. Though a youngster compared to that latter bridge, it is nevertheless nearly 200 years old, as it was constructed in 1826. The bridge was built to carry the Stratford & Moreton Tramway across the Avon to meet the canal basin of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. For information on this horse-drawn tramway see the Wikipedia entry here LinkExternal link
As can be seen from this photograph, it may no longer carry horse-drawn trams, nor coal and limestone, but it is thronged with milling visitors to this popular town.
