Roofless relics of an industrial past
Roofless relics of an industrial past
The old quarryside buildings have been silent since the 1930s when the last shipment of crushed granite, destined for use in road-making, was transported out of the nearby harbour at Porthgain. This one stands on the edge of PenTop slate quarry. The industrial development of the area can be roughly translated as:
1850-1910, The Slate Era
1889-1912, The Brick Era
1889-1931, The Road Stone Era
