Sandpit Field
Sandpit Field
The name of the field according to the 1842 tithe map. The soil here is a narrow strip of greensand that runs between the chalk of the South Downs and the clays of the Low Weald. As the name suggests it is quarried for sand often a small pit in the corner of the field in the past though a disused pit lies immediately to the left out of shot. Long Wood is at the far end of the field.
