The view from the scarp is not actually the 'dyke'. It's a valley to the east of the access road just before the pub where the devil is supposed to have dug a trench in anger. About 100 years ago the view would have included a cliff railway. There was also a chairlift over the dyke and a railway that ran to within a half mile of the pub. The latter closed in the thirties. The spot is still very popular for locals and tourists and with views like this it's easy to understand why.
