Riverside house and boat
Riverside house and boat
I took this photograph in 1978 and I was unable to locate it until Nigel Cox came to the rescue. The house is further west than I had thought and for some reason my Field Book does not include the picture. The fine boat in front of the house carries the name 'Duchess Doreen' but was originally the 'Duchess of York'. She was built in 1894. Noted in use as a restaurant in Maidenhead in 1974, she apparently sank at Teddington Lock in 1980. It is thought that after being raised she was beached at Hayling Island, where after a further spell as a restaurant she was finally broken up. I am indebted to Nigel Cox for all of this information.
