Old peat diggings

The characteristic, furrowed appearance of an area dug some while ago for fuel. The regeneration of the peat is a current argument, given that peat is classed by some agencies as a fossil fuel. This is due to the fact that it accumulates so slowly that the vast majority of current peat resources were formed before the onset of modern living. Others would insist that it is a biofuel. It is believed that peat began to accumulate in this area around 4000 years ago during a period of climatic deterioration.
