'Oliver Cromwell' in Newtondale
Watching the Class 7 4-6-2 No. 70013 Oliver Cromwell steaming through Newtondale on its way to Pickering. According to the NYMR website this is the first ever visit of a ‘Britannia’ to The Moors. The front of the locomotive is carrying a 'Head-code' board '1T57', which indicates to a signalman or railway employee the type of train, or route to be taken by the train. Apparently the '1T57' headboard re-creates the 15 guinea special which ran in August 1968 and was the last steam hauled train by British railways; 'Oliver Cromwell' was part of that special train.
Thanks to Ashley Dace and Dave Hitchborne for the detailed headboard information.
