Sand Cliff in Abandoned Workings
Sand Cliff in Abandoned Workings
This old sandpit has been reclaimed as a Nature Reserve by the Heaths Countryside Corridor Project - LinkExternal link. The yellow and red sands from the Folkestone Beds are good building sands for mixing with cement to make mortar. The cliffs left behind are subject to hillwash but are solid enough for the sandmartins to colonise year after year.
