Former Chartist Land Company School now the 'Prince of Wales' pub
Former Chartist Land Company School now the 'Prince of Wales' pub
This pub was originally built by the Chartist Land Company as a school to support the 81 small holdings in the surrounding Chartist estate. Chartism was secular and no local school existed at the time. Alas, the land company collapsed in 1851 and the property was sold off without ever functioning as a school although a church school was built shortly afterwards.
