Eaglesham Fingerpost

The old cast iron fingerpost at the crossroads is a familiar sight and has been directing travellers to Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Strathaven and East Kilbride for many years. Old photographs show the fingerpost has been here for at least one hundred years although has been relocated from its original position at the other side of the crossroads. The post has a spherical boss finial; new fingers were cast and fitted to the post in recent years giving the sign a new lease of life. A similar fingerpost now long gone stood at the south-west corner of Newton Mearns cross. The Eaglesham fingerpost is probably the only remaining fingerpost in East Renfrewshire.
