Coastal scenery north of Salterfen Rocks
Coastal scenery north of Salterfen Rocks
This is the slipway at the end of the promenade which double up as the coastal defences from the north. Further south from here the coastline cliffs of magnesian limestone capped with a thick layer of boulder clay are subject to the full force of the sea and eroding at a substantial rate. Artificial defences are again in place several miles to the south at Seaham. The passage below the cliffs here should only be attempted at a low or falling tide as it is at least 1km of difficult walking before the cliffs can be passed south of Salterfen Rocks.
