Applying rockfall netting
Applying rockfall netting
The rock face shown here is the upper part of one of the crags at NS4274 : Dumbuck Quarry; the photo was taken from a point on the nearby cycle route.

Where the stonework on old buildings overhangs city streets, it is, for safety's sake, often covered in metal mesh. The work being carried out on this rock face is much the same thing, but on a grander scale; as the map makes clear, the crag stands near a main road (the busy A82). The metal mesh is secured to the rock using anchor bolts, in the hope that any pieces of rock that might fall from the crag will do so safely, contained by the mesh.
