Museum of science & Industry, Manchester
The traffic in Castlefields was very heavy, both vehicular and pedestrian.
The two heavy red columns supporting the name and the sculpture (no idea what that is meant to be) are actually structural members from the ground-breaking Deptford Power Station that was designed by Ferranti. This was the first application of a power station that was not in the area it supplied and that used high voltage to overcome transmission losses. The museum is also home to a Ferranti steam engine (watch this space).
