This track beside the River Ericht is part of the Cateran Trail. The trail is a 64 mile circular route named after the notorious Caterans. The Caterans were marauding cattle thieves who flourished in the more lawless regions of the Highlands from the Middle Ages until the 17th century. More feared than wolves, Cateran raiding parties numbered anything from fifty to five hundred warriors.
