This monument in the parkland estate at Hamstead Marshall is dedicated to the memory of men of 501st parachute infantry regiment. This American regiment was billeted here in a tented camp in the weeks leading up to D-Day. They parachuted into Normandy on 6th June 1944 and returned here briefly for rest before parachuting into the Netherlands on 7th September 1944.
