Lamb's House detail
Corbie-stepped gables in the Dutch-style (corbie being Scots for a crow). Scottish merchants' trade links with the Baltic and the Low Countries favoured the reception of architectural influences that were often distinct from styles prevalent amongst the 'Auld Enemy' to the South. Red pantiles, like those seen here, would be loaded as ship's ballast for the return voyage across the North Sea.
