The down train waiting at Halfway Station. It is waiting at one of the three passing loops on the track. Once the up train has passed, it will continue its downward journey back to Llanberis. The total length of the railway is 4 miles 1188 yards (7.53 km). It has an average gradient of 1 in 7.86. Construction commenced on the rack and pinion railway in 1894.It was opened in 1896.
