Castles of Munster: Knockkelly, Tipperary
Knockelly stands proudly above derelict farm buildings to the NE of Fethard. Its mullioned windows, diagonally set chimneystacks and flush gables indicate the late C16 date of this five storey tower. It lies within a remarkably complete bawn having circular drum flankers at the NW and SE corners. In the C18 the owners were the Everards, whose tenants the Keatings were evicted for non-payment of rent.
