These large letters on Chester Knowe to the east of Gattonside is the handiwork of protesters who are against a proposed new crematorium next to Wairds Cemetery at Melrose on the opposite side of the Tweed Valley. A field next to the cemetery at the foot of Eildon Hill North is Scottish Borders Council’s favoured site, but a group of locals are campaigning for an alternative site outwith the Eildon and Leaderfoot National Scenic Area.
