The cemetery is situated on the east side of Melrose at the foot of Eildon Hill North. The field beyond the cemetery in this photo is Scottish Borders Council’s favoured site option for a new crematorium. There is no crematorium in the Scottish Borders area and the nearest facility is a 30 mile journey to Edinburgh. The site is in the Eildon and Leaderfoot National Scenic Area and some locals are campaigning for the selection of an alternative site.
