Barton Aqueduct
Barton Aqueduct
Here the Bridgewater Canal crosses the Manchester Ship Canal. This large tank of water (weighing 1600tons - 800 of which are the water) can be sealed at each end (and the canal!) to allow the structure to rotate, thereby enabling large vessels to use the Ship Canal.
