Castles of Connacht: Fiddaun, Galway
This was an O'Shaughnessy residence forfeited to the crown after the last of the line Sir William fled to France in 1697 following the failure of the Jacobite rebellion. The tower house lies inside a well preserved bawn between Loughs Doo, and Aslaun. There is also a surviving two storey gatehouse that was once part of an outer bawn that existed on the north side within the adjacent grid square.
