Newquay station, Decorative Ironwork barrier
This image gives the full flavour of the ironwork barrier reflecting the identity of Newquay's waves. By a very long margin, it is the best thing about Newquay railway station, which is a bit of an apology for a station, not much different from many unstaffed stations in Cornwall, where the waiting rooms are often locked, such as at Par. However, there is no waiting room to lock at Newquay, just an open shelter. Nonetheless, the movement in these sinuous scrolls of this metal barrier takes the mind off the down-at-heel station and puts pleasurable images of the beach and the rolling breakers to the fore.
