Keyingham Drain
The photograph was taken from the A1033 bridge that crosses Keyingham Drain at this point. The drain removes rainwater from the very flat low-lying fertile farmland in South West Holderness. Several years ago, maintenance on waterways of this type was minimal, which partially led to a severe flood in the area a couple of years ago. Weeds and reeds on the drain's embankment (like several others in the area) hindered fast flow and hence the land flooded behind it. The drain has had its annual 'haircut' this year, but new reed shoots are beginning to show already.
The drain was illuminated by the sun just at this point with heavy rain clouds behind.
