Sheep near the shielings
There are remains of ruined shieling huts very close to here. ( NG1842 : Shieling remains ).
The huts were built as shelter for shepherds and their families who temporarily left their township homes to graze their sheep on higher ground during the summer.
The shepherds and the shielings have gone, but sheep still graze here.
