The helicopters approach HMS Illustrious
Looking south through the Isle of Man ferry loading ramp as the helicopters approached HMS Illustrious for a spectacular flypast.

Thousands of people waited patiently for the flypast over HMS Illustrious, which was berthed at Liverpool's Cruise Liner Terminal. The aircraft carrier was visiting Liverpool between 22-27 October 2009 as part of the Navy’s celebration of its centenary of aviation, Fly Navy 100, and the flypast of naval aircraft was reported to include Merlin, Sea King and Lynx helicopters, Falcon and Hawk jets, GR9 Harriers, Fireflys, Seafire and Sea Fury. HRH Prince Andrew, Duke of York, took the salute.
