SZ0378 : Path across the cliff reinforcement, Durlston Bay
near to Swanage, Dorset, Great Britain

Path across the cliff reinforcement, Durlston Bay
This path leads across the lower portion of the huge cliff reinforcement below the precarious flats on Belle Vue Road, in the middle of Durlston Bay. To the left is the steep slope of small pieces of Portland Stone overlying the cliff; to the right larger blocks of Portland Stone to defend against the action of the sea. The path gives access to the shore in the northern part of the bay from the bottom end of the Zigzag path in the middle of the bay. The white stone made the massive works quite visible against the darker cliffs, but the stone has weathered to a darker colour and vegetation is starting to get established in more suitable spots, such as the margins of this path.
