North Cross, Plymouth
The post-war plan for Plymouth conceived by Sir Patrick Abercrombie and the City Engineer, James Paton- Watson, envisaged a broad thoroughfare connecting the railway station to the Hoe. This now exists as Armada Way, but unfortunately the northern end remains disconnected by a busy roundabout, which pedestrians must cross by using this subway, and a multi-storey car park. The effect for anyone arriving in the city by train is distinctly underwhelming and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce has put forward proposals to redevelop this part of the city centre, creating a dedicated business district.
