Riccarton des. res. requires a bit of TLC
There are few remains of the one-time railway workers' village of Riccarton Junction, where the Border Counties Railway from Hexham in Northumberland joined the North British Railway's main line from Carlisle to Edinburgh. One of the larger and perhaps more desirable rsidences was, not surprisingly, provided for the station master, on the hillside overlooking the station and its sidings. Today it is in rather a sorry state, desperate for a do-it-yourself expert to apply tender loving care. The Waverley Route Heritage Association, who are gradually rebuilding the railway from Whitrope towards Riccarton, are hopeful of being able to stabilise the ruin, even if it can no longer be lived in.
