SO8454 : Cripplegate Park
near to Worcester, Worcestershire, Great Britain

Cripplegate Park
Looking through the open gates of the park to one of two pear trees in the park.
At least one of the trees is a Worcester Black Pear tree.
An 1878 Public Health Act planned for this area to first be used as a refuse tip then become a recreation ground.
It became the latter in 1932 as shown on the gate above the Worcester City coat of arms.
Notice the three black pears and the epithet "Fidelis Civitas" - the faithful city, loyal to King Charles II in the 1651 civil war.
