The Wood
The Wood
The name of the field according to the 1842 tithe map suggests a former grubbing though the field exists in Yeakell & Gardner's 1783 map. The hedge on the left marks the course of Honeypot Lane whilst the trees on the right mark the site of Wet Home Wood which was grubbed up sometime in the last thirty years. The soil should be well ploughed seeing as the field was the site of Hurstpierpoint & District's ploughing match held at the beginning of October. The buildings in the distance are in Shepherds Way, a housing estate that utilises the old buildings of Pouchlands Hospital.
