SK1715 : River Trent at Alrewas, Staffordshire
near to Alrewas, Staffordshire, Great Britain

River Trent at Alrewas, Staffordshire
The Trent and Mersey Canal shares the course of the river here. Water level is maintained by means of a large weir to the right of the boom seen in this picture. The boom prevents narrowboats being swept onto the weir by the current, though any navigator using this section must take care at all times, and not even try when the river is in spate. The image was obtained during the last half hour of sunlight in the evening, giving a warm glow to the colours.
