NG4625 : The Bad Step, Am Bāsteir
near to Bruach na Frithe [hill or Mountain], Highland, Great Britain

The Bad Step, Am Bāsteir
An awkward section on Am Bāsteir's east ridge. Several fairly recend rock falls (indicated by the lighter coloured rock on the ridge's crest) have made things more difficult for the hill walker.
On the ascent of Am Bāsteir, the most direct route requires a short down climb on the crest of the step, reaching for hard to see holds.
I opted for a longer down climb directly on the south side of the step. Another option is to side step the difficulty altogether by negotiating various slabs on the south side of the ridge.
