This is the Trent and Mersey Canal approaching Bagnall Lock (No 13). The 93 mile canal was opened fully in 1777, having taken James Brindley about eleven years to complete.

The building in the centre of the picture used to be The Old Boat (previously The Navigation) public house, but reopened in 2008 with the new in-phrase "Contemporary Indian Restaurant". Balti out; contemporary in? I haven't tried it yet.
