SK8029 : Footpath in old ironstone workings

Footpath in old ironstone workings
The footpath from the Eaton to Branston Road follows the old working face of the ironstone mine. This area, including many of the surrounding villages, was a thriving industrial site in the late 19th century and first half of the 20th century producing tons of iron ore. There was an extensive railway system, industrial machinery and even specially built wooden houses for the miners, (see my SK7928 : Waltham Lane at "White City"), all long since gone.
See John Sutton's photos: Link
and mine: Link
both of which show some of the industrial heritage of the Eaton area.
