Looking upstream. The section of fence in the foreground exemplifies the style used around the park. The variable height of the uprights confuses the deer and prevents them from jumping it, apparently. The construction of pale fences like this is explained at Link
, with a reference to that at Charlecote being at least 400 years old, although I imagine it has been renewed a few times.
