The Norbury Theatre & Cinema, Friar Street

The theatre and cinema are run by a non-commercial organisation, which is a registered charity. The theatre can seat 176 people and is in the wing of the building, on the right, which directly fronts onto Friar Street. This wing only forms a part of this huge building, which was originally the Norbury House Hotel. It was built in 1935 and today most of it is used for flats. Unfortunately the construction of the hotel had rather a negative effect on the appearance of the street, as its scale is much larger than that of the older buildings which have survived.
