Church of St Nicholas, Gunby
Church of St Nicholas, Gunby
The church was essentially rebuilt completely in Decorated style in 1869, only the 15th century tower remaining of the medieval building.

It consists of simple nave and chancel, the latter with vestry on the north side, and west tower.

The fine late 15th century tower arch is the only significant medieval item of the interior. The finest features are the carved timberwork, comprising tower arch screen, font cover, pulpit and reading desk, chancel screen and reredos, all carved in Perpendicular style in around 1880 by the Rev. W E Thorold, clearly a gifted and prolific amateur craftsman.

There are the remains of a 14th century cross in the churchyard on the south side of the church, close to where the main entrance to the medieval church is likely to have been.

The church is Listed Grade II.

The cross is Listed Grade II and also a Scheduled monument.
