Tate Britain
Formerly known as the Tate Gallery, it was funded by the sugar magnate, Sir Henry Tate. Built on the site formerly occupied by the Millbank Penitentiary, it now houses British art from 1500 to the present day, with international contemporary and modern art being housed in the Tate Modern at Bankside.
