Road Up
Road Up
(Why do we say 'Road Up' when what we mean is that there is a hole down into the road?) This hole is some distance from the river bank, but the adjacent grass has been flattened by fast-flowing water, so it must have been excavated by the September 2009 spate. I was very glad to come to it from this side, because when I cycled back the other way it was all but invisible and I could easily have cycled straight into it if I had not known that it was there (or do I mean that it wasn't there?). This is only part of the damage I observed, so the estate is going to have a big job on its hands restoring road access to the fishing beats before the season opens in a few months' time.
