"Off-roaders" on the byway to Strata Florida, Powys
In the upper Tywi Valley near Dolgoch (both hill and hostel).
Several convoys of these four wheel drive "off-road" drivers passed me on this former drove road today. These vehicles contribute much to the deterioration of many such unsurfaced roads, especially in wet spots and fords when wheels are allowed to slide and spin, often caused by unskilful "adventure" driving. The pastime is very popular, and some routes have been closed to such activity (not this one). The byway crosses (by fording) several streams and the Afon Tywi twice on its way to Strata Florida, and should not be attempted after heavy rain. Non four wheel drive vehicles should not leave the forestry road near the Afon Tywi bridge 1500 metres south of here. Cyclists - expect to get your feet wet.
